We once had a story where someone ordered a sandwich and the person making the sandwich put in one wrong salad ingredient and the guy called up asking for a refund so we told him to bring back the sandwich with a bite in it (we knew he lived a block away) and then he mumbled something about finishing the sandwich already.
What ended up happening to that establishment?

People who "reply to all" in emails.

Im not actually sure why they even have the reply to all function at all. Its a very inefficient way of having a group discussion.

Sometimes it's useful, if you send an email to 3 people but only need one of them to reply, like this the others know not to bother after one person answers.

Use it all the time.
At work when someone emails me and CCs someone else. It's usually so that the other person can be in on the question and on the answer.
Whenever I get a work email to more than one person, I almost always reply to all.
This is especially in situations where your emailing on behalf of someone else.

So you are getting involved?
I'm not who you think I am.

I just got an email sent to me and 3 other people, I clicked Reply All, answered 3 of the questions in the email, and said that the others will be able to answer the rest of the questions.

Just saying :)

You clearly don't use email for work.
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

Reply all was probably one of the best inventions in the work world.
No way to work without that.

It’s not the point. There are a time and place to use everything. Reply all is on the most part an extremely important part of the email feature.
Same way you tell some people to come into the meeting just to hear what is happening but not necessarily to comment. Or a secretary to know what is going on.

The real annoying guys are the ones that when I copy someone specifically and they don’t reply all. It can happen with the same guy in one thread many times. I keep adding them back when I respond and they just press reply.

The misuse totally outweighs the benefits.

Disagree immensely
Edit: unless, overall the people I work with don’t misuse as much.

Although I hear that this could vary based on the situation.

I would think that in most situations where Reply All is misused, it's because all those people should have been BCCed in the first place. But I may be wrong.

If I send a mass email (mail merge) and I CC a few people from my office on it. If one of the participants on the mail merge reply all it will only go to me and the ones CC’d. Correct?

Reply All will go to the sender, and anyone else in the TO or CC box. Not sure how mail merge works but that's the way Reply All works.
