You guys on this forum are all pretty smart. So help me out.

I like my tallis to fold really flat. Right now though it folds puffy because the creases came out. How do I get back that flat, compact fold-up-like-a-box effect?

careful, though, if it's a wool tallit (and most are), make sure to always iron through a towel.

I hand wash my talis once a year in Bath, let it soak overnight etc. Then I iron it on high with plenty of steam. Creases come out very good.
Btw I find that the cleaners make talaisim yellow.
I also note that people are very makpid on a nice esrog while they have no problem with a sweaty, black, yellowed, and even ripped talis. Zeh keli veanvehu: talis, Lulv etc...

Do you use woolite? What about bleach?

Be careful with that. My father gave his tallis in to the cleaners and when he came to pick it up they wanted to charge him extra because it took so long for them to open all the knots;D

Regular detergent.
They used to sell in geula an illegal chemical or something that worked wonders in whitening the talis. Haven't seen it in years...

It's the loshon of chazal . Talis noeh, Lulav noeh etc.
The only chiluk is that talis is everyday.

Indeed it is but IMHO the beged is included.
The loshon talis cannot be used because in chazal talis does not necessarily mean a talis shel mitzvah.
ETA see MB 24:9 explicitly says talis also. Also see caf hachyim there 3.
Also talis shel mitzvah is ossur to use for tashmish genay even if possul

R' Yisrael would say everyone cares about a nice esrog for Sukkos and they pass the almanah on their way into and out of the esrog store and don't give her anything.
