People have tested esrogim and there's enough poison in them to make you ill. No other fruit in the world has to look so pristine, so it's sprayed like nobody's business...
But at least it will be badatz
Good point! I assume you mean the Esrogim from EY too as most are from there. I will ask my pardes-connected friends to look into this.
pesticides dont usually make it past the peel
The Esrog Schnapps is made by soaking the Esrog, cut up and without the pits, in vodka for 2 weeks (followed by other steps).
As per the CRC "Unflavored vodka is acceptable unless the label states that it is produced from grapes, wine, milk, lactose, or whey."
CRC ≠ Badatz Eida.
Exactly, that's why when I was living in Russia, I was zoche to drink many kinds of voda, I mean vodka. My favorite was still Nemiroff which has OU hechsher on most of its flavors. Agav, I once called the OU and asked why one kind did not have the OU symbol and they said it was a mistake, it is also certified Kosher. They do have a few that are not kosher. There are also many great vodkas without a hechsher. Recently (maybe 5 years) Rav Berel Lazar started putting his hechsher symbol on various foods there, like pasta and vodka. But as mentioned, I want to do this for unfettered distribution, otherwise I would just use my stock of Russki Standard which I got from duty free in SVO, Platinum for ~25 Euro, regular for 16 (for a liter). Here the regular Ruskki Standard is 99 shekel for 750 cl.
Anyone was in Piup recently? Any other ideas? TIA!
