You're slowly becoming the DDF resident R' Yisrael Salalnter.
CBC has got a point... am totally with him on this one.
Not to knock ppl who buy a nice Esrog.
But what's the deal with wearing an oisgemutched talis, if you get a new one every two years, it will cost you about a quarter a day.
It is cheaper than your daily coffee.

Yuck. There's an old guy in shul who brags that this is the only talis he's ever used.
Yeh, there's mold growing on the thing :P
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

I've had my talesim 4.5 years and they are I'm very good condition.  And they go to the cleaners (who never put the crease in the right spot)
Life isn't about checking the boxes. Nobody cares.

There's a place in Lakewood, Zober cleaners, for $30 they do a nice job on your tails, cleaning the lining etc. It's not as white as snow new, but it's close to new as you can get w/o getting  a new one.

Well it happened to my father at our local Chinese cleaners. I remember when he brought it home all un knotted, I was LMAO.

if you do take it to the cleaners, take a bunch of tie wraps (those things that look like plastic handcuffs), loop the tzizit and cinch the tie wraps closed around them, it will keep the tzizit from getting tangled and frayed. When it comes back, cut the tied wraps with wire cutters and your talit will be clean and your tzizit will be fine. Same applies for washing your talit katan in the machine rather than hand washing it...

Indeed it is but IMHO the beged is included.
The loshon talis cannot be used because in chazal talis does not necessarily mean a talis shel mitzvah.
ETA see MB 24:9 explicitly says talis also. Also see caf hachyim there 3.
Also talis shel mitzvah is ossur to use for tashmish genay even if possul

You're right. But does that mean it's not a hidur to have a nice beged?

Of course, I'm Chabad and I don't have an atara on my tallis, but for those who do, should I tell them to put the atara on the tzitzis instead of the beged since the real mitzvah is the tzitzis?  ;)

i actually have an atara, but my point is that to compare a talis to an esrog is preposterous

Chazal do.
If we don't understand a chazal that's brought down by the poskim in we don't call it preposterous.
Learn hilcos tziziz, there are many halachos pertaining to the talis shel mitzvah.

It's a bad comparison for a different reason. Tzitzis has the 'standard' inyan of ze keli, while esrog has a special inyan of pri eitz hadar.

Many say the Hadar by arba minim is derived from Zeh keli also.
Btw the source for hiddur mitzva is a in shabbos 133b it even says that the cover for the sefer torah should be beautiful.
Rashi in baba kama 9b says talis, tziziz, and Lulav noeh.

I don't for a second disagree that there's an inyan of talis no'eh and that never cleaning your talis contradicts it, it's just not on the same level as esrog. That much is clear.
