they enforce other bids because it is the person bidding who pays normally but in this case they are forcing someone to do something he doesnt want to do and then they tell him he has to pay. what is making him pay- he didnt bid and wants no part of this "prank"

FYI.. I spoke to the Rav at my shul and he is open to this and said we can auction it off, but for no less than $500.00:)

I know it's after Simchas Torah, but I just have to add...
In my shul we have a bidding war- men against women- for kiddush and havdalah for the year (i.e. sponsoring the "ner l'meor v'yayin lkiddush"). The selling point is that the rav makes a misheberach every week for all those who contribute to it! Funnily enough, most years the women more than double the men's collective bid. Maybe because the men are so tapped out from bidding on everything else

I know this year the total raised was over 10k...!

+1 but for a little different reason.i think it's bad training for kids to take candy from a stranger. I know of a rav who used to be the candy man. I think that's a great idea.
