Amazon charging more for Prime 1 day and Saturday shipping!

You've probably been ordering popular items, which amazon will usually have stocked up in their nearby distribution center.

FWIU amazon doesn't pay per package.  They negotiate a set amount for as many packages as they want to ship. 

For example,  Amazon gives UPS  $5mm in the beginning of the year,  which in turn buys them the rights to ship as many packages as they want.  (didn't really word that right,  but you get the point)

CMIIW. 

I think you're mistaken, even if UPS gives them a huge discount, it still isn't unlimited.

I figured. When I ship out stuff locally, even using the cheapest shipping option from FedEx, many times the package is there next day.
