A friend just brought me the 18Y/O Scotch for $40, if it's as good as the Macalan 18 I'd be thrilled!

I bought a JWBL recently from a friend who got it as a gift and didn't want it. I paid him $100 as I figured for that price its nice to add to my collection.

JWBL is only good as the Cask Strength edition (which is hard to find nowadays). It might cost another hundred bucks but i would never buy watered down scotch even for 155

You may not be aware that almost all scotch you see has water added to it. Most of the finest brands/bottles have water added. There are some that say "cask strength" on the label. Those don't have water added. But it is not an objective ma'ala to be cask strength, just different/stronger. If you prefer cask strength, then you obviously think it is a ma'ala, but that is subjective.

And the differences between a scotch that has a bit of water added to it and one right from the bottle are striking. I've found that it makes the scotch much smoother, reduces the burn a bit and brings out more the characteristics of the barrel aging.
On that note, I think I'll have a shot now.
