But if it keeps on for a long time it'll ultimately affect other aread as well.
I was responding to the member who postes he doesn't have a problem with the govt running the way the did today. That comment was pure ignorance.
while I agree with you, I do think he has a point (not to stay at this level but as you asked earlier

I would say no, these things should not be regulated by the federal government, rather by private companies)
there are many things that are not being paid for today which we do need in the long run, however there are many which the fed should not be paying for

ummm... And who's gonna pay for these private companies??

What's up with you?

In NY, Medicaid is actually through private health insurance companies, its just the govt who pays for it and verify member eligibility.

Does this affect anyone here directly?

Yes! As a result of sequestration and further effects from the shutdown, my school is no longer giving students free pizza or tutoring...

Don't take it personal, but that makes me happy.

PS. Affected, not effected

Typical liberal bullying. They castigate Republicans for shutting the government over Obama Care, while they hypocritically try their hardest to make sure the effects of a shutdown are as serious as possible. They did the same by the sequester, trying to stop all flights.

what do you mean by what's up with me?
You said the govt shouldn't pay for SS and Medicaid, just private companies.
You want the private companies to pay for it?
Who do you want to pay for Medicaid? The poor?
can you share more information on how? sounds interesting
The home ownership program was put on hold in NYS, then resumed with restrictions.

Do you by any chance know what the FICA tax that's deducted from your paycheck is?

I think social security should be a system where anyone who contributes is part if it, like an insurance plan.
you are right about Medicaid, I really don't know how it should be done only that since it is done by the government there are lots of people on it that no private company would allow.
additionally it is an incentive for those who have less money to not try and improve their lives rather to just rely on the government to support them. not saying that there should be no program, only that it is severely abused, and will probably not change much while remaining under governmental control

Isn't it? Don't you need SS credits in order to get onto SS?
Life isn't about checking the boxes. Nobody cares.
