Starwood Question- St. Regis NY

Is it possible to book a suite using only *points?
Would it be 60,000 *points for a category 7?
Or is it an either/or- meaning that if I want to book a suite I would have to pay cash for a standard room?

If you book from a Platinum account you should get a suite regardless.

Would it be cheaper than $3-400 to make myself platinum? I'm not even Gold yet.
