thats not exactly accurate. The deal between KRM and brach's fell through without involvement from GG. I believe it had something to do with the costs of renovating being much higher than KRM originally estimated. GG did then get involved and in their involvement did get KRM agree to not compete in the 5T for a time

Believe it. That is GG style. They forced themselves in Lakewood too. If KRM would move to town, GG is finished. They wont be able to take advantage of us anymore.

It's just amazing how such a large community like ours is stuck with the monopoly of two rip-off stores. It's almost like living out-of-town where the one Kosher supermarket sells for inflated prices to the entire community, and everyone is stuck with it. But at least out-of-town it is justified. They don't sell large volume and need to make up for it somehow. Here, they have the volume and still rip us off.

I almost don't feel bad about the fire....

GG helped KRM get out of the Brach's deal after paying a pretty large deposit. No one here is acting selflessly

I still dont full understand why KRM backed out even if this is true. Costs of renovating? Brachs was not in such bad shape and even if they were its such a huge open market with no competition.

Maybe GG helped KRM get out of the deal plus added in another million etc... But even so it still doesnt make sense

Im guessing GG threatened to drop their prices 30% the second they move in.

Same thing?!?!

More Stores=More competiton=Lower Prices

Even GG Lakewood is cheaper than here for the same items. And in Lakewood they are considered high end.

I haven't shopped in the 5T in a while, but Lakewood prices are artificially inflated too. There's enough business for everyone, so the stores aren't competing enough to require them to lower prices.
There was a big discussion in the Lakewood thread about it a while back

You can go to whatsonsale website and compare GG Five Towns with Lakewood, and Seasons Five Towns with Lakewood. And that's just their sale items.

Why cant you believe that after looking at the actual cost of renovating brach's KRM decided that it was too expensive and backed out? Also, why doesnt it make sense that GG basically paid KRM to stay out of the 5T for a few years?
Why does GG threatening to lower their prices make more sense?

How high can renovations cost that it wont be worth it to open a store in a wide open market? (we are not talking about the cost of the property and real estate because that they knew upfront) Most stores do it in a populated market.

Threatening to lower prices make more sense because with competition from GG maybe the risk wasnt worth it.

Hard for me to see a $ that would work for both sides. Regardless dont you think its a scummy thing to do? (paying your competition off so you can rip everyone else off)

Put the cost of renovations on top of all other costs.

If Brach's wasn't profitable, what makes you think KRM can make a profit with higher costs?
