The only things you might 'need' from a 'kosher supermarket are certain meats, and certain CY/PY items.

All other dry goods, produce, household, etc can be purchased online at any retailer.

Amazon, Walmart, Costco, Target, ShopRite, Aldi, Kroger, Trader Joe's etc.

You'd be surprised how much kosher is out there, and how most people outside NY/NJ mangage.

GG is a convenient and luxurious shopping experience. It's a free market and they can charge whatever they'd like. You are free to shop anywhere!

Kosher chicken: Costco Empire Chicken: Thighs: $2.49/lb A WHOPPING $1.70/lb LESS OR 41% LESS. grab a package of Costco Chicken thighs and it will cost you about $15. You decide.
                              Costco Empire Chicken legs: $1.99/lb A WHOPPING $2.30/lb LESS OR 54% LESS.  grab a package of chicken legs from Costco, it will cost you about $11. You decide.
Eggs:  Costco:$2.69/dz, Target: $3.49/dz, Aldi’s: $1.97

It's not really luxurious. Setup is horrible. (Not their fault, but still). Aisles are narrow. Checkout area is crowded. Understaffed at the butcher. And very poor selection on products.

In their Lakewood store, if you want to buy Heimeshe Hashgocho caanned Pineapple, you can pick from a variety of brands, for normal price. Here they have one brand at around $5 a can.

They also have old candy in the candy in their GG packaged line. They sell one brand of grape juice. Recently, they got in a 2nd brand of grape juice. But they forgot to remove the dates before they put it on the shelves. When I noticed it was over two years old, I was just fed up. I showed it to the manager. First he tried to tell me I'm reading it wrong. Then I finally proved to him it was old and expired, so he pulled it oof the shelf. (I have seen this product in both GG an Kolsave with the date wiped out)

I don't think you can call GG luxurious. Seasons happens to be more upper class though.

So i went to gourmet glatt for the first time in a while today. ridiculous pricing on most things, other than sale items where i think i got some decent value (compared to Seasons at least, which may not be saying much). I'm totally cool with their ridic pricing bc it was convenient for us to stop there and grab what we needed (yogurt) plus they got us on some sale items. but the thing i hate the most is the lack of clear pricing on items, there is a grab n go section when u enter the woodmere GG and there are these delicious looking cured tuna bites and other things with absolutely no pricing so i have no idea (and so i have to assume considering where i am each pack is like $632). Really think halachically they should do better in putting freaking pricing either under or on the food items considering how much cost there is. also at about 2:15pm, it was annoying that there were only 2 registers and we waited for 5 minutes.

also could argue geneivas daas and more generally deceptive sales practices (similar to the toeva of using trick scales), once u bring something to the cashier and find out its $632 its hard to say cancel it and look like less than a billionaire next to your lawrence neighbor.

Has anybody else noticed the price of checked Romain in our local stores?

Seasons upped it to 9.99, while GG went up a dollar this week to 8.99.

This is the story: Romain in the market is very expensive now. I don't understand numbers, but someone in the field told me it's up to 100/box. That is why there has been a shortage in Bodek Romain. Since they use market product, the price is too high for them to make money.

Postiv (and Kosher Gardens) has their own greenhouse and is not effected by this.

GG has been repackaging the Postiv for the past few weeks, enabling them to keep the cost down. But the quality is just not the same. So it seems that switched back to using market Romain, and raised the price to cover their cost.

That's fair.

But the market prices are forcasted to go back down after Thanksgiving. That is when we will see if we are being ripped off. If the prices at the local stores reamain high after market prices drop, then we will have (another) proof we are being taken advantage of. Time will tell.
