Went to the new novo steakhouse that took over the mur space (this was a soft opening), and really impressed. They restructured the mur set up and it’s very roomy and u can hear your spouse talking across the table (useful for some). Obv once they get busy they may add tables, but I counted main room seating now as about 84 seats which was nice. I found prices to be reasonable for a high class restaurant like this, and on some items a very good deal.
All in our meal was 235 and we were too full for dessert (for next time). Sadly no beer, I suggested getting beer on tap as other restaurants here don’t have it and I kinda feel they could get some extra love with that/maybe more guys at the bar Thursday night.
We got our starters pretty quickly, had to ask for bread but it was good. And then after starters there was a big delay and lots of people seemed to be waiting/not so happy. We enjoyed the 40 minutes in the nice venue and knew there would be mishaps on the first night, and were happy at least the food was worth the wait.
Mushroom soup with a rice ball in middle (poured soup around it) was great, and I love when they pour things at the table and this chef seems to be big on that. I didn’t see any truffle flakes but it didn’t need it. reminded me of the porcini mushroom soup from solo (really good). Only had a pic half way done
9/10
The fish tacos were the highlight I think, maybe the best we have had in terms of all the flavors coming together in a flavored, crispy taco shell (and the mahi mahi tasted really fresh, no fishiness). 10/10
The Thursday special aged prime rib eye (22oz) for $72 was a steal, closer to $100 (or more) at most other top places, and perfectly seasoned and cooked. We had to wait a while for it, but it was worth it. I usually don’t order steak, but at that value to share it may be a go to. I don’t remember having a better steak outside of Manhattan. Note their normal 16oz ribeye is $71. 9.5/10
We got this skirt steak salad too, it wasn’t actually skirt steak (could have been oyster or possibly part of a hanger) but very interesting with a guava sauce with a kick (may be too spicy for some). Could have used some more crunch, and I didn’t love that the bowl had an internal lip so hard to scoop out/share. Prob won’t get this again. 4/10 (pic from elan kornblum)
Truffle fries were what they should be, but it REALLY hurts to order them for $14 but sometimes u gotta let the Mrs make a decision…
Overall great, seems the chef is talented and now they just need to ramp up service. On that note though delayed service was great, waiters were wearing suits with black bow ties and they were attentive and refilled water etc.
