also i would imagine a franchise has different rules. plus you can check the tub the ice cream is coming out off. can't do that for soft serve.

I just spoke with someone from there (in response to an email I sent them)
He said exactly what the letter says. They certify an ice cream plant in Canastota, NY. That has absolutely nothing to do with the store! They don't certify the store.
Anyone who eats there is relying 100% the non-Jewish owner to certify that the food is kosher.

He said that he knows about it and it's a problem here and many ice cream trucks. There is nothing they can do legally but they are working on educating consumers about it.

These look like the storeowner is claiming that they buy the mix from this manufacturer that is under the OU but that the store may not have any hechsher at all. Such cases you are entirely relying on the store owner. If you ask the OU about it they will often send a cease and desist for an unauthorized OU.

Franchises are definitely better for items they are required to buy from the franchise as seen with the Slurpee lists.

cant you assume that they wont be adding anything else besides the mix they put in the machine? If i went to a carvel in idaho I believe we can assume that they didnt add anything to the ice cream with ou on it would be the same here.... better question is why wont the owner just get a hechsher on the whole store, I understand its expensive but im sure will bring a lot of business also.

Carvel as a franchise may be similar to slurpees.

In this store you are relying on the owner saying it is kosher.

Depending from exactly where and when. If you're in Inwood, it's as little as 30 seconds. If youre in Hewlett and it's a school bus time, it could take 15-20 minutes.

Yes, that was my default one and I saw this morning they had 2 prices listed. Same with the exxon on the corner of west broadway and rock tpke.

I always wonder what the BP on Mill/Peninsula is a front for. Why do they charge 60 cents more than the station right across the street? And how are there ever customers there?
