Quote
From a senior member of the RNSP:

THE FACTS:
1.
Both Pesach Osina and I have personally called the organizer of the protest. He pledged to work with the RNSP, the leadership of the 101, and that of the Jewish communities of Far Rockaway and Bayswater to ensure that ALL measures are taken by all parties involved to make certain that this never turns ugly.
2.
In addition, the organizer of this group is a well known community activist. Although he and I have our political differences, I can attest that he is a peaceful person who DOES NOT WISH TO STIR HATE AND VIOLENCE. Furthermore, he has political aspirations of his own. He fully understands that he has a lot to lose if things go south.
3.
I have also personally brokered communication between the organizer and the commanding officer of the 101. That communication was positive and VERY reassuring. The commanding officer will follow up in person with a face to face meeting with the organizer and Coucilman Richards. All should be fine.
3.
Mr. Richard Altabe and his colleagues at JCCRP have been in contact with Rabbonim, Black clergy members, and local politicians. He ensured that the approach to this issue is one that is WELL COORDINATED and that all parties are on the same page. With all of this done days in advance, there is slim to no chance that things will get out of hand.

#FullCourtPress 🏀

WHAT SHOULD WE ON THIS GROUP DO?
1.
Our community is very afraid, certainly more afraid than I have ever seen. We must NOT escalate thatfear. As community leaders we need to reassure our neighbors, parents, friends, and constituents that all will be fine.
2.
At the same time there is no 100% guarantees in life. To that end we advise all local minyanim, particularly the ones based outdoors and in backyards, not to operate for Mincha and Maariv on Tuesday evening until the protest is over.
2.
AT THE SAME TIME, we ask that as an added measure of precaution, people should avoid downtown Far Rockaway as an added precaution.

Would it be crazy if Jewish community leaders joined? Might ease tension

How? Jews get ticketed and called out by the Mayor when not socially distancing properly.

So far there has not been a peaceful protest that didn’t escalate i to a riot.
And it may not be those protesting making all the riots, just ones taking advantage of the situation and stealing all the things they couldn't afford. Justifying that its for “brother george”

This is for the hundreds of George Floyd protests across the country? Source?

And by riot you mean looting? You mean to say every protest so far has resulted in looting?

Many of the organized ones that have been posted online.
Well looting is one aspect of the riots. Aswell as  vandalism.
No source just google and see the aftermath of them after dark

You made a blanket statement saying there were no peaceful protests. Maybe you just missed them?

The burden of proof would presumably be on you to prove your assertion.

True, ill edit it to IMO
As for proof, there was a video i saw about how they will be on the streets till they get what they want.
So essentially it’s possible the looting etc. is just nothing to do with the protest, Rather a result of the angered protests/riots.

Green acres is a target on its own unrelated to Mott as far as I can tell. There have been protest in valley stream and social media has mentioned green acres as possible target along with other malls.

Dear TAG family:

Boruch Hashem, while the concerns of Corona have somewhat lightened, though by no means have they disappeared, Hakadosh Boruch Hu has once again shown us that He runs the world and our lives. This latest social unrest has taken a tremendous toll on our country and was something that we were not prepared for. However, as we know, Chazal teach us that the refuah comes before the makkah, and we can be assured that Hakodesh Boruch Hu is well prepared for it and with his help we will meet this challenge and come out of it stronger than ever before.

As you are well aware there is a planned protest/demonstration scheduled for this evening, at 6:00 p.m. The starting point will be at the Mott Avenue subway station and they will march to Central Avenue and then will proceed up Beach 20th to Seagirt Boulevard, concluding at the O’Donohue Park on Seagirt Boulevard and Beach 17th Street, (diagonally across from Yeshiva Darchei Torah.) While the organizers of this demonstration have assured the authorities that this will be a peaceful, non-violent demonstration, there are obvious reasons for concerns. The local as well as Queens police force have assured us that they will be out in force and will be prepared “for anything” though they do not anticipate violence. In addition, while it is not planned that there will be any demonstrations on the Nassau border, as a precaution, the Nassau County Police will be adding a much larger presence in the area overnight.

While we all know that we have only Hakodosh Boruch Hu to rely on, we are always obligated to take reasonable precautions. We do highly recommend that for this evening, families and especially our talmidos remain indoors from between 5-6 p.m. While in the past private residential streets and homes have not been targeted there is always an added concern of small splinter groups roaming the streets “looking for trouble”. In addition as you all know New York is on a curfew as of 8:00 p.m. So, my suggestion would be to stay at home tonight, say tehillim and rely on the knowledge that we are all in Hashem’s loving hands and He is the true protector of all of us.

Please stay healthy and safe.

Sincerely,

Rabbi Meyer Weitman
Dean
