Dear Fellow Residents:
It has been brought to my attention that many of you have received letters from Liberty Water requiring the installation of a backflow device as well as an upgrade of the water meter. In an effort to answer your concerns, the Village has contacted Liberty Water to obtain information on the requirements and changes indicated. The main points are as such:
Properties with irrigation systems that are sourced from the public water supply must have a backflow device connected to prevent contaminants from entering back into the public drinking water system. Although this may be the first notification of this requirement for many, it is not new. What customers are experiencing is more stringent enforcement of this requirement to help keep drinking water safe. Please note that these devices are required to be tested by a licensed plumber every 5 years. Upon receipt of this notice, customers are urged to call the number listed and advise the representative whether the irrigation system is connected to the public water supply or an independent well on the property. If a well is present, then a note is added to the customer's account and future notifications will cease.
Liberty Water will be replacing existing water meters with new AMI meters also known as Advanced Metering Infrastructure. These devices monitor usage and are capable of displaying near real time data via an app. One of the major benefits is leak detection capabilities and notification. This will assist in determining common leaks such as toilet bowls and outdoor watering activities, thus avoiding costly bills.
I trust you will find this information both interesting and informative.
Sincerely,
Mayor
