KVS Master Thread
« on: August 12, 2010, 06:56:07 PM »
I have a weird thing happening to me on KVS. When searching for awards via "awards/skyteam" CDG-TLV 8/18 I get no availability, but when I search AMS-TLV it gives me availability through CDG!;
KL         1227    AMS   06:45     CDG   08:00     737  0   CS+
 -> AF     1620    CDG   10:35     TLV   16:00     320  0   CS+
KL         1223    AMS   07:15     CDG   08:40     737  0   CS+
 -> AF     1620    CDG   10:35     TLV   16:00     320  0   CS+

What gives?

I know there arent that many KVS users on this forum but maybe we should start a master thread discussing tips and questions about KVS.

 I dont have KVS but at times I see the exact samething with both award and paid flights. when I look at ABC-XYZ theres nothing yet DEF-XYZ is available and the ABC-XYZ goes via DEF. At times a Carrier will have seats for a given route and not the parts individually, it is rare but I have come up against it a few times.

Try to put the ams-tlv reservation on hold then call up and ask them to remove the ams-cdg leg

I have it very often with kvs, so I search all routes from different airports (if I don't find what I'm looking for).

Just because KVS doesn't show it originally doesn't mean you need to book the whole thing and then cancel a leg. It means (usually) that the flight you want IS available and you can call and get it. An exception would be if it's the same flights number with a stopover.

Once in a while the search tools are not entirely accurate and people have found that quirky things like this do tend to happen.

I know there arent that many KVS users on this forum but maybe we should start a master thread discussing tips and questions about KVS.

There is an ongoing issue with the [Awards/SkyTeam] engine. Therefore, as per the table at http://Help.KVSTool.com/#Classes, AF award availability should be checked via the [Sabre: FS] Method.

And, speaking of KVS Tool Tips, be sure to use the correct Copy option for proper forum post formatting, e.g.:

[KVS Availability Tool 5.7.6/Diamond - Sabre: Availability/FS/US]
Code: [Select]
CDG  Paris Charles De Gaulle FR [LFPG]
TLV  Tel Aviv Yafo Metro / Tel Aviv Yafo Ben Gurion Int'l IL = TLV SDV [LLBG]
WED  01 Dec 2010

Carrier    Flight  From  Depart    To    Arrive    A/C  St  Availability
---------  ------  ----  --------  ----  --------  ---  --  ------------
AF         1620    CDG   10:15     TLV   15:40     320      O0 E9 X0
AF         2220    CDG   18:45     TLV   00:10     320      O3 E9 X9

Yes, start a kvs thread if you wish, and KVS, choose to be notified whenever something is posted on it.

Thank you, KVS, for joining our forums. This is a nice quieter place to discuss KVS issues where it won't get lost in the forum like it may on FT.

I couldn't find this with a quick search on FT. Maybe someone here can help me out.

When I search *A award availability for a common route (in my example, NYC-DCA), KVS returns with only 20 flights. I have tried using some of the other options in the drop down box on the bottom left (what is that anyways?) and it still only shows 20. This is a big pain when I need to see a late night flight.

Can anyone teach me how to get around this?

Thanks
-Eli

That's a limitation of the [Awards/StarAlliance] engine itself. However, routes with more than 20 non-stop *A flights per day are rare. As a work-around, you can use the [Awards-Upgrades/X1] Method for UA award availability on the night flights.

POS options for each Method are described at http://Help.KVSTool.com/#Methods

Yes, it is rare, but if I can put in EWR and have it return ONLY EWR, then I would be ok, but it returns all NYC airports which makes it impossible for me to search LGA-DCA (it also returns all IAD destinations). Is there any way to search only one airline?

Just noticed ANA also only shows a max of 20 flights.
But there its easy to search one airline.

Well, I doubt that theres an airline that has 20 flights between two cities.

In your above example, searching each airline separately, it has them all.15 on CO, 14 on UA and 6 on US.
As KVS said earlier, the issue is displaying more then 20 flights. Once there are less then that amount in the particular search, it will show all flights.

BTW, do you want me to search a flight for you?

I'm ok thanks. I was just wondering why I can't choose in KVS one specific airline and then be able to see all the flights since, as you said, one airline will generally never have more than 20 flights.

It's another limitation of that engine -- it always searches by city, not airport.

There is, but only for UA (via a different engine).

However, we are looking at the possibility of adding such functionality in the future...

You mean X1 ;)

What's the deal with that? Did UA try suing you for scraping their site?

Yes.

No, and there is no "scraping" (by us) involved, just browsing (by you): http://www.KVSTool.com/FAQ.php#Method_ITA_AwardsUpgrades_X1 ;)
