Why would someone who has money want more? Hmm...

Do you know to whom I am referring to? He is beyond wealthy.....

I don't think they did anything for the money. But it seems like it was an added 'perk'.

Random thought - but I don't get why the Rabbi would go into such detail with all the information.

What happened to just saying "Dont, worry. We'll  take care of it?"

I have no idea who wanted what.  But if someone's saying "Why would someone wealthy want the money" I think it's good to remember that money makes people do crazy things. Now, I wasn't talking about any of the people involved specifically. Just stating why a comment like that isn't necessarily correct.

I feel like we're missing something from this story.

They claim the "husband" and "wife" were undercover FBI agents posing as orthodox jews, I don't see how they could've spoken to the rabbonim etc. for more than 2 minutes without them getting suspicious.

And would this B"D really go through all this without doing any basic investigation of their own into the case, i.e. without speaking to anybody (other than the "wife" and her "brother") familiar with the case, such as whatever Rabonim were involved up to that point?
+1 unless they were modox

Eh, I stopped buying that argument years ago (not saying what's true or isn't true here. But at this point nothing is too hard to believe)

The only people who would be happy about this are those who don't believe that the Rabbis should be resorting to physical violence and threatening.  And I can hear that point of view. And I imagine there are husbands out there happy about this as well.

Otherwise, it's just very sad.  We obviously don't really know all the details.  Were they taking advantage of the situation for financial gain? Maybe. Do I agree with that? No.  Were they really looking into each case as they should? I hope so.

Either way, it's awful.  For themselves, for their families. For the community.

The fact that people would actually pay $70k means they were very desperate an there weren't any other reasonable options.

Right or wrong the current system leaves a lot to be desired.

There's no excuse for a husband not to give a get for his wife, if that's what she wish.

Sometimes, there's NO WAY for a women to be freed without forcing the husband to give a get.

Hit-mans do a very risky work and $50k is a reasonable price to pay them.

So what do you guys expect from a women looking to be freed, begin a stable life and raising a family?

Sometimes you MUST go this route.

Anyone disagree?

Apparently, to an extent, Jewish law agrees with you.

Unfortunately, Jewish law isn't the problem at the moment.
