I'm assuming FM but I try not to read that tabloid.
Sad stuff either way.  There really has to be a better get solution, the system is broken.
I know of someone who got divorced and remarried civilly but won't give a get just to be cruel.

Surely rabinic minds can think of a solution for that...

I feel like we're missing something from this story.

They claim the "husband" and "wife" were undercover FBI agents posing as orthodox jews, I don't see how they could've spoken to the rabbonim etc. for more than 2 minutes without them getting suspicious.

And would this B"D really go through all this without doing any basic investigation of their own into the case, i.e. without speaking to anybody (other than the "wife" and her "brother") familiar with the case, such as whatever Rabonim were involved up to that point?

From the court documents it sounded like they were "frei" and she was claiming she felt she needed to get divorced in accordance with jewish law.

Just to stick my two cents in. I know of a family member that used Rabbi Epstein and he was a tremendous help. Granted it never came to the part in the news (beatings, etc.), but he was very nice and wasn't fixated on getting tons of money. So perhaps there's another side to the story. No one has been convicted of anything at this point. It would be nice to hear from women he helped.

I don't think anyone can argue that he hasn't helped many many women. And men for that matter.

...nuff said. These rabbis did the dirty work that needed to be done, being that we have a broken divorce system. A very very broken divorce system. Anyone talking smack doesn't know ANYTHING about the countless lives these people helped. Some men behave like dogs during divorces and will not give a get if they're not paid a few million bucks (true story). If that husbands wife was any of your sisters you'd be breaking this tools limbs yourself. Don't judge until you know the sick stories they dealt with.
