Pidyon Shvuyim does not hinge on the person being innocent
The point isn't whether or not he is guilty of beating people up. The question is wether or not his geittin are kosher.

-1. Although a very important (and sad) question, I don't think that is relevant to the pidyon shvuyim question

from what i have been hearing from my rebbe and others, sounds like pidyon shvuyim, might be regarded as one of the biggest mitzvos in the torah... more than giving money to a poor person.

All he said is that he's not interested in giving M.E. money, which makes sense if you aren't 100% sure of his innocence in the story.
I said I am not going to post further, but there is an example I didn't think of at the time I posted which I want to add.

Let say someone calls up Chai Lifeline to donate money to needy cancer patients.
Now he tells the Rep on the phone. "Please make sure the money does NOT go to someone that got lung cancer from smoking"

Tell me that is a nice comment.

Now let's say he gets up by a fundraising event and says I am donating 10K to CL but not one penny is to go to patients that smoked. *nausea*

And even further we are not talking about tzorchei refuah here, we are talking about pidyon shevuyim which is deemed one of the most important tzedakos.

I don't think it matters what the guy did or didn't do. (especially when everyone thinks they know what happened). Don't be quick to judge. And don't say what you think if he is deserven't or not PUBLICLY.

According to רא"ש in teshuva 17:6 and 43:9 someone who is kofe husbands to give a get against halacha has a din of rodef and he specifically says you can maaser them to the goyim.

If that is the case there clearly is no mitzva of pidyon shvuim, to say the least.

I assume you're referring to the Rambam of kofin? I wasn't commenting about whether or not the geiitn are kosher. All I said was that if they're not it's possible ME belongs in jail according to halacha.

-1 the rosh says you can be Moser the guy while he is being rodef the husband in order to save the husband's life. Doesn't necessarily mean he belongs in jail

No one denied that there is a din kofin. The question is was it applied appropriately

Or like my father says: what he says, what she says, what the street says and the truth.

This is SO true.

While it often is true, it is NOT always the case.
Some other "genius" connects I've heard, are:"it takes two to tango" in other words, if there is a fight, both are liable to dine extent.

While often true, to put this as a rule is completely wrong.
