Mint.com
Mint.com is a free web-based personal financial management service for the US and Canada

Description
Mint's primary service allows users to track bank, credit card, investment, and loan transactions and balances through a single user interface as well as make budgets and goals. In 2009, it was acquired by Intuit

price
Free

Security
Mint asks users to provide both the user names and the passwords to their bank accounts, credit cards, and other financial accounts, which then Mint stores in their databases in a decryptable format. This has raised concerns that if the Mint databases are ever hacked, both user names and passwords would become available to rogue 3rd parties. Some banks support a separate "access code" for read-only access to financial information, which reduces the risk to some degree

I saw mentioned here and in other threads that mint.com is secure because it's 'read only'

it is simply not true;

to clarify:
Mint needs to access your financial accounts read-only since they don't do any transactions.
the user-name and password you provide is decrypt-able since they have to login.
if any hacker hacks their database and gets your user-name and password they can make any transaction they want.
unless
you provide Mint.com with a read only access token.

Note
the accounts don't have to be from 1 person or the same SSN.
if you have one account displayed in multiple accounts you can hide them in settings (Top left accounts)
you can set what category it should be marked in the future by selecting category > expand "Edit detials" > check "Rules"

Mint-Bills
In May 2014, purchased Check

Description
Get alerts when bills are due and easily make payments online.

To me, a personal finance tracker either has to be able to access everything or it's completely worthless. I tried adding my Robinhood account and it couldn't do it.  >:(

Since my target credit card got switched to a mastercard, new transactions are not showing up in Mint. I tried adding the account again but it tells me that it's already there. Anyone know how to fix this?

For some reason this app is not working the way it used. It often mischaracterizes entries and does not remember my categorizations no matter how many times I change it, and it has strange and inconsistent ways of extracting merchant info.

Is there something I can do to make it better or is there a better alternative?

It's been getting steadily worse. I've been checking out www.simplifimoney.com (by quicken) and will hopefully switch over. It's not free but for $40/year it's worth something that works and has good customer support.

Once a week I go through all my transactions to ensure they're labeled properly. Many times I need to make adjustments.

I'm also having a different issue, for some reason some charges from my Amex account come up twice in mint. I'm not sure how to fix this.

I have that too. It seems to be based on the date, like for two weeks transactions are doubled and then they stop. Very annoying.

Same here
they changed from adding chase per product to one login for all products, and they never merged the transactions, so I have everything multiple times, when I want to remove them it warns me that it will delete all transactions associated, its a mess

I'm also having a different issue, for some reason some charges from my Amex account come up twice in mint. I'm not sure how to fix this.

I noticed that it does that when there are cars where I synced mine and wife’s account. Since it picks up the same card from two accounts, it double counts all transactions. Really annoying. I did figure out that I can select all transactions from one of the account copies and mark them all duplicate. Not automatically though. Have to periodically do the search.

Also by intuit.
If they can’t get their act together in mint, why would that one be any better?

Intuit doesn't own Quicken anymore, they sold it off and some people online were saying that that's when Mint started going downhill.

It may be worth a try. The UI seems very clean and slick and their CS is awesome (i've been in touch with them about a few different things). They even reached out to schedule a private zoom meeting with me (and other new customers I guess :) ) to ask what I thought and if anything was missing, I requested a few features and most of them were added within a month or so.

Huh. Well that’s definitely better than Mint’s nonexistent support. Might be worth a shot, thanks for the tip!
