Amex Buiseness asks for Tax ID what to do
« on: May 01, 2014, 03:46:59 PM »
I signed up recently for my 2nd amex biz gold card not for the bonus sign up points (I dont think I can get that) but because I maxed out on the cap of 100k on the 2x categories. I did the new card on a different biz. name and was accepted even though they said I need to call right away I didnt and still got the card with in the week. I tried to activate the card online and it wont let it keeps saying were sorry the system is down for about 5 days now. Today a got a letter saying congrad...your accepted.... and that I will have to call them to let them know the tax id # of the biz. I don't really have a tax id to give them WHAT TO DO?
Thank you for and sugg.

Did you open the new card under a sole proprietorship?  If so you can use your SSN as the Tax ID #.

You are lucky this isn't stemming from a financial review otherwise if you can't provide proper paperwork they would shut down ALL your accounts and they are quite nasty about it too

Not saying you should, but if it comes to it, you can open a matching corp and get a TIN...

Dan will probably give you a much better advice.  There aren't that many options.

You can't just play dumb when you already have account(s) opened and one of them being a business so you would know the difference between corporation types.

You can't say you've never received the car when you've been tagged with an activation attempt.

Claiming you made a mistake and instead have a sole proprietorship with 20 employees is... Well... How ridiculous do you think that sounds? A company that size would be incorporated.

You can claim a second mistake on the employee count... They might let you off the hook. If they don't and ask you for your k1 you may be able to say that you just started this year and have not yet filed for that business.

Whether any of that puts your accounts on the radar or leave you in the clear... Well that's you and your luck.

Closing your account without even having used it may even be better than just  not doing anything beyond this point with the account.

All I can tell you is that American Express has been tightening its belt and isn't as lenient as they were.

I have had my accounts for years with some I churned. I have been trying to move a credit card line from my hilton to Starwood and they keep denying me because my hilton card is less than a year old... It's actually 360 days old and they will make sure I wait till day 365 before I can request a credit line reallocation....

I know this doesn't really point you to any one direction, but I'm sure someone will comment :)

Can you say you meant to put 2 employees instead of 20? It was a typo?
