There was a kehilla, I guess in the lower east side, in the early 1900's. They were Shomer Shabbos, as opposed to most other kehillas where asaiu they davened early on Shabbos so they could go work Hashem Yirachem.

No. It's to differentiate the path the Alter Rebbe chose versus the other disciples of the BST and MM.

Indeed some (obviously non-Chabad Chassidim) probably do consider it condescending/degrading (I wouldn't say derogatory) וד"ל.

Although it is questionable wheather Breslav can/should be considered Chaga"s.

Yes I was kidding, didn't mean to start a whole discussion but now that you mention it I would say Breslov seems to focus on Yesod (hiskashrus to a tzaddik, tikkun habris etc.)
