Note that AMEX always reports every card you open as being opened in the year that you first got an AMEX card.  So if an AMEX was your first card then don’t sweat it!  Whenever you open a new AMEX card it will be as if that account was open from the date you opened your first ever AMEX card.
iirc ir was reported they stopped doing that
Yup, years ago.
You're right. Amex stopped backdating AUs a while ago. They only stopped backdating new accounts about a year ago, though (3/21/15).

No they don't.
It ended for everybody.
It doesn't matter what your card says, but what your credit report says.
All cards already reporting as backdated remained the same.

So, bottom line, can I close my first amex card or will that hurt my report? my 1st card was opened in 08- my first amex was in 14

In terms of your pulls; lol. I could've guessed that myself about you.
Thanks emkay .

Your oldest Amex card is new compared to your oldest account, so closing it is not a big deal.

I have 3 open Amex cards (and a few closed) that report back to 1992 and are my "oldest" accounts. It would be a much bigger deal for me long term to close them than for you to close yours.

Even closed accounts count towards AAOA though and stay on your reports for up to 10 years from DOLA.

Interesting. Because on Amex website mine show as backdated, DW doesn't. I never actually checked to see if they were backdated on the CR.

Good to know. Thanks.

Until backdating ended, MSD for the login was what determined how it reported.

All accounts that were backdated remained that way.

All accounts opened after the change report the actual open date.

Don't confuse the date on your card or login with credit reporting.

What I am trying to figure out is, why would some accounts (opened after the change) still show MSD as your first card? While other accounts (also opened after the change) show MSD as card opening date?

Didn't see it on the fr wiki. Did you mean prepaying?
