Depending on what it was, sometimes if you call/email the company they will refund you. BTDT

Just got a call from capital one fraud department that someone tried opening a cc in my wife's name. However the only information that matched was the name. SS and DOB were both wrong. What makes them think it was my wife and not someone else with the same name? The guy couldn't give me any information re email or physical address,so idk if they matched or not...
