Is a canceled UE worth anything in the airport? ie. checked baggage etc.
And if I paid for united ticket with an amex, does having an active UE card at the time of boarding help?

Probably can get priority boarding, maybe checked bags as well.

I just got approved for a couple cards with large spending thresholds and I have to make a couple large online purchases this week before those cards arrive. Is there any way to get the cc numbers before they arrive.
Probably not. Though try calling to see if they can rush the card/s.
I've never gotten one before so not familiar with them but could I get a virtual cc# from citi before my first card arrives? Would that help my problem?

Just give them a call and ask, can't hurt.

Don't think virtual CC will get you points. Please CMIIW

To CYBYW:  Virtual cards are temporary card numbers from your real cc.  The charges get posted on your real cc account.  They get points the same as your regular cc. Just that the temporary card number only works once.

I think it may work for  your situation, Am.
Asking to expedite delivery of the card  usually gets it to you pretty quickly, too.  Especially with Amex.

I'm probably pushing my luck  but is there any mileage program which would allow me to book a united ticket and either a qantas flight or a virgin Australia flight?

When signing up for a card for your spouse, is it a bad idea to use the same phone number and email that's on your own accounts?
I want to do that, so my email and number are the default on her account.

United = *A
QF = OW
VA = No alliance

So... not really. MR can be transferred to Aeroplan which can be used to book onto United, and to VX/VS you can book onto VA. Not gonna be great.

VA has a list of partners here: http://www.virginaustralia.com/au/en/experience/airline-partners/other-partners/ and on the left.

IMHO this is a "bad idea" because it might get your application flagged as fraud. They send the phone number and email to ID Analytics for a fraud score, and it can potentially trigger a lengthy process of sending ID, docs, etc.

If your number is on her CR already, then it's probably okay.
