On your due date, pay on line.  Or if it's too late in the day, pay with a rep on the phone.
Pay just the minimum so you don't get late charges.  The check will likely show up any day.

They will reverse the charge for late penalties and pay then! They are very easy about that when saying your mail was just received after my closing date!

I get you.  But you can't hurry it once it's in the mail.
I guess you can write out a new check and mail it over night. Or just pay the whole thing on line. Then ask for the extra money back. But that way, call amex immediately to get the refund.

I mailed a check to them 4 days ago. It posted over shabbos. Doubt its holiday delays. Since it was a biggish check did u send it with registered mail?

nope, I've done bigger with regular mail in the past, not worried about it getting stolen, I'm wondering what's taking  so long

I had once this same issue, it took well over a week and I made a new payment to avoid fees, but in the end it posted and i requested a refund for the money, and I still don't have an idea why it happened.
