Balance transfer question:

I have a chase cc balance of $8k and owe someone $5k. I want to combine the 2 using the Chase slate, but can't pay back a person using the Slate (without having to pay a fee for an access check) or transfer balance from Chase to chase.

My idea: pay off the guys cc bills with the Chase Slate balance transfer for  ($8k plus $5k =) $13k and have him pay the $8k cc balance off and the rest he'll keep as his payment.

Is there anything I'm missing that could get either of us into a mess?

What're some of the best cards with points that can be redeemed for car rentals? I just got denied for CSP (still waiting on a response about reconsideration in the Chase thread). Also, I don't have much recent activity on my Discover card (only one I have) in the past couple years. How bad is that when applying? I've had the card for over 10 years with no late payments so I feel like that shouldn't be too much of a detriment.

Yes, do a 2 or 3 bm. No reason to sign up for the Ink cash, get the Ink preferred and then downgrade to the cash later, the increased sign up bonus easily makes it worth the $95.  Also it probably makes more sense to get something other than the FU unless you already have the CSP, CSR and UA.

Was not thinking, yes it makes a lot more sense to sign up for the chase ink preferred which has the 80,000 sign up bonus and then downgrade, only reason I'm wanting to go for the FU was because I got the offer for $325 after spending $500, and again going for the sapphire reserve is probably a better choice for the 5th card, besides for the rebate you get on booked flights with ur, getting a 50% or 25% back, there's also a credit to be used towards travel, whats the amount these days?(assuming it didn't change.)
Would go for the CSR vs the CSP because of the AF, unless I close right away, that way I can avoid the AF, as the airline credit is once every anniversary so there would be no point in having the card open unless I'm plan on flying alot.
