Yes.

I initially got my card back in Feb. 2014 and since then they've mailed me two new cards (one because of chip and one because of new design). The card that I have now is a WE. Was the initial one that they mailed me for sure a W, or is it possible that it was already a WE? Any way to know for sure?

The card you signed up for in February 2014 was forsure a W because you can't initially sign up for a WE.

The problem with the 2% cards with AF's in year 2 and beyond, is the AF's eat into your returns.

The CapOne Venture and Spark 2% cards have a $59 AF.  Even after you've spent $24,000 in a year with an AF being assessed, your actual return is only 1.75%.

Obviously the $400 or $500 sign up bonuses ease that pain, since most no-AF cash back cards don't offer sign up bonuses, or they are meager.  And if you hit them hard, you can always get AF waivers.  There's also the point that CapOne likes to double or triple pull if you leave your EX out to dry.

The Barclays Arrival+ has an $89 AF or something.  You have to spend like $50K/yr during years where the AF is assessed to get anywhere close to a true 2% return.  And Barclays isn't known for waiving the AF on the Arrival+.  Your better off combining limits on another Barclays card so you can hit up a checking account sign up bonus.

Some of the BofA products are really great (by today's currently available to apply standards) if you have $75K in deposits or retirement/investment accounts.  The BofA Travel Rewards becomes an uncapped all around 2.625% cash back card (on travel redemptions) when you have their Platinum relationship rewards or whatever they call it.

Thanks. Wow, this is really eye-opening. Was about to close my card to reset the 18 months but knowing this, the smart thing to do would be to apply for a new one while my old one is still open and then close the old one after, right?

Top tier needs 100k relationship with a 75% bonus. Do not play any games when you have this or they will shut down all accounts including brokerage accounts.

- Don't close the old WE card until you apply for a new W card.
- Regarding closing the old WE card after your approved for your new W card, see FT (I don't remember exactly because I haven't personally closed an AA Plat card yet!)

Dont close ANY any card till after you stop getting approved 5-6 cards later.
The real experts on this are in the FT thread. I am applying for my 4th card today following their instructions.

If you get a pending decision, what do you say when you call recon? Why would you need a 4th card when you have 3 others that are exactly the same? Wanting to separate types of expenses on different cards is the only fake and remotely believable excuse that I can think of.

When's the last time Citi recon asked you those questions?

Just called as advised  after completing application  . That question was NEVER   asked. I  Was told will take a week . Heard that before and disregarded it  . I will call back tmrw and report back.

Do yourselves a favor , and lurk in the FT thread . You don't have to post or register .

Never Call

I've only applied for (and gotten) 2 Citi cards. I only started playing this "game" a year and a half ago.
