I used their travel insurance the summer before last during Operation Protective Edge and they covered a trip cancellation
That was an official war, may be different.

Just book the refundable fare on Southwest.com, after it posts to your account in a few days click to redeem your points for it, get a check for the value of the points and 10 5% of your points back, cancel the Southwest ticket.
Rinse and repeat.

Ok, thanks for explaining. How does the 40k Barclays sign up compare to other offers out there? (Excluding chase and amex offers)

Quite possibly. I would advise the OP to call the Chubb Group directly and ask them.

I did but they told me that they only file claims over the phone and to get an answer to my question, I need to email them. Did that and waiting for a response. Will report back.

Just got an email back from Chubb. This was part of their response:

"Federal Insurance Company is unable to provide prospective or hypothetical coverage determinations.   Coverage being provided due to terrorism would depend on the circumstances of the event. Whether or to what extent a particular loss is covered depends on the facts and circumstances of the loss as evaluated by a licensed claims adjuster.  All relevant circumstances and information will be reviewed at the time of submission of a loss in order to make a determination whether or to what extent there is coverage.  I have included a summary of the terms and conditions of coverage and a link to the complete T&Cs.  Please use this as a reference."

Then they just copied and pasted the T&Cs. Smart on their part for not giving me an answer, annoying for me. The line in the T&Cs that talks about terrorism is "• A terrorist action or hijacking." Seems like there's a lot of wiggle room for them. Don't think it's worth the risk and have to fight with them after.

Not really such a tough process. They told me the same thing and approved my claim without a problem

Ya, but as someone else pointed out, it's very possible that they'd view Operation Protective Edge and the random stabbings that are going on now as very different scenarios. I can see them saying something along the lines of being scared to go to Israel now is equivalent to being scared to go to a city in the US with a lot of crime.

Why do you have to transfer them out?

True, but also probably worth it to just buy a cancelable ticket from a cost-benefit analysis perspective.

Just keep it, you'll get more money if you sell it as MR

+1
Many brokers don't like buying Arline accounts that have points transrfered into them anyway. It's a bigger risk factor.

You may have more time to transfer out or sell as MR,
even if closing account today, see FR thread
