AFAF: How can I be alerted immediately when someone applied for Cc or loan in my name? If they have my social and other info... thx!
If they're truly nervous for a legitimate reason, have them freeze their credit

How do They go about freezing? Anything else they can do to be alerted and quickly call the back to stop it?
If you are trying to get my attention/assistance and I'm not responding, please feel free to PM me. :)

Contact the CB's and report that you think you may be the victim of fraud. There is always the paid route of lifelock™ which will report any attempt in a credit pull

Thank you. Will it be too late for them to cancel the application for CC/loan without pursuing criminal charges on the person that applied?

I believe there would only be charges if you decide to charge.
Memories last forever, make them while you can.

You're right. My friend has a relative that is well meaning but is applying for cards/loans in my friends name to help my friend with higher interest loans etc. My friend would like to know how to prevent this from happening. My friend can do the credit freeze but it sounds like a hassle to call all 3 CBs and to have to call in whenever applying for card. If friend does LifeLock, and there is unauthorized application, will the well meaning relative get in trouble? Is there another option for my friend (other than talking to relative)
If you are trying to get my attention/assistance and I'm not responding, please feel free to PM me. :)

Lifelock prevents any future credit pulls. If you sign up (its not so cheap), but anytime you want to apply for something you have to call lifelock first with your code and tell them "amex is going to be applying today" or else it won't let your credit be pulled

Thanks. So you think that's the best option?
With either option: will the relative attempting to apply get in trouble?

There is nothing well meaning about that.  It's outright fraud.

Saying it "sounds like a hassle to call all 3 CB's" when someone is fraudulently applying for credit in your name (whoever's name) is perhaps the most asinine comment I have ever read and shows a very limited comprehension of the importance of one's credit files in today's world.

........ (other than talking to relative)
Talk to the relative!!!
Tell them to stop 'helping' !
Either explain to the relative how the victim is handling it, or don't.  But tell him to stop applying without his express permission.
My favorite cause: cssy.org

Thank you very much for your help. We'll see how much LifeLock is and see if it's better to take the hassle of locking all 3 reports.

Obviously that would be ideal but that's not where it's at.. thanks!

There are more companies then just life lock. Do you're research if you're looking for a deal...

capital one keeps sending credit card offers to my house. the problem is that I cant figure out how to stop it. its not to my name, and when I call the number on the paper to opt out, I cant go past the first question, as they want info which I don't know, and its an automated system. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Amex offering me 7500 points or $75 to keep PRG card open for 2nd year, pay $195 fee, and spend $1k within 3 months. I get another $100 airline credit so the AF will only be $95. Worth it?

So that's $20. Is it worth it?
