Worth it to take a $17.5k utilization hit on DW's credit report in order to earn 2.36% APY on the money for ~27 days?

I'm thinking yes, b/c I'm not really planning on getting a new credit card or mortgage within the next 12 months any way.

Higher interest rates really change the math on MS strategizing. :)

Once you pay it off, it leaves no Trace, CMIIW.
Utilization cares about %, not $ amount.

Is there a card that's better then another for credit building? Or once your SS is added to a card or added as an AU on a household account it would all be the same time frame to build your credit?

I trust this has been addressed up-thread so apologies in advance. What's been the verdict these days - when Amex accounts get shut down do you loose your points?

You typically have 30 days to transfer them out.

Hi, I have a friend that's looking to do $10k (correction possibly $25k) college spend (doesn't need a 0 apr card), she's looking for a single personal cc with highest welcome bonus offer avail. (and for 10k+ spend for education, double points possibly so she comes out with most points possible)
1. She is not interested in opening a biz card
2. She's only looking to open 1 single card, she's not a credit card junkie
3. She currently has a Sapphire preferred and Freedom
What card do you recommend and why? Thanks in advance.

Remember the card gives you points and those points can only be redeemed for a cash paid flight or travel on your account.

Ye, I'm sure chase or amex points value may be greater (with the right cards...) But I think the Barclay is perfect for her being that she's earning 2 points per dollar and she is able to book travel wherever she wants, and use points to pay it off...

And that you get 70000 or rather 80,000 after she spends 5K in the first 3 months.

That's already worth $800.

If you value Chase UR points highly, the freedom unlimited is a free card that gives 3 ppd on 1st 20k. that's 20k spend for 60k UR.
The Barclays would get 110k points for 20k spend
Common sense is not a gift, it is a punishment.
Because you have to deal with everyone who doesn't have it.

The Barclays would get 110k points for 20k spend
they did say they have the preferred card so that would make a good choice taking the freedom unlimited to get three times per a dollar then transfer to the preferred and book award tickets.
Now they did mention as well they have the freedom not sure if it's the freedom unlimited or the regular freedom so they might want a different card.
as well they already come out ahead with the Barclays card worth $1,100 which is the freedom only 700/750 after  redeeming for cash, or using for flights you can get a lot more value.
