If I have a link that I used to refer a friend from my sapphire preferred, and I have since upgraded to the sapphire reserve, but the link still works. If someone else uses the same link will I earn the referral bonus even though I currently have the sapphire reserve? Thanks

Is there a reason a hospital I owe 25k would send only $491 to collection?
Should I pay it?
Is it bait to get the rest?
a) Maybe you owe it to different departments.
b)Usually I would say yes.
c)Once you respond to a portion of a debt, the clock restarts on their ability to collect from you.

You can ask the collector for proof of the debt and proof that they have the authorization to collect it. That may explain a).

I've had Amex Gold for many years. Now that return protection isn't available on Gold, I'm going to get the Platinum card (70k bonus points). Question is, is there a way to downgrade the Gold to a free (no AF) card? I see no reason to pay for both gold and plat. Alternatively, I guess I could just upgrade my gold to plat, but there is currently no bonus points to upgrade (even when they did offer bonus points for upgrading, it was minimal).

Thanks!

The Gold can only be upgraded to Plat (which your rightly do not want to do) or downgrade to the Green, whose AF was raised to $150.

I have an Amex that got refunded from a flight that was canceled. I now have a credit of over $1000. Is there a way to get Amex to send it to me as I don’t really use that card or do I need to use that card and spend that money?

Yes, call them up they return money to bank accounts you made payments with. I just did it.

Yup. Some CCs do that automatically (I just got a check from Kohl's because I did returns and then didn't shop there for a couple months) and some you have to ask. With Chase I once got them to transfer my negative balance to a different card instead.
Workflowy. You won't know what you're missing until you try it.

Do banks (citi, Barclays) claw back sign-up bonus miles if purchases made to reach minimum spend amount are returned?

I believe so, although I have been diligent to ensure it does not happen to me personally, so I cannot speak from experience.

oh, that's not good. I bought a number of tickets on a few airlines months ago that will be soon refunded to me bec of flight cancellations. as the money gets refunded to original card, I will be short the SUB amount on a 3-4 cards if they take these refunds into consideration. I cant even spend now to make up the difference as the 3 month (spend window) period is over.

Some banks have extended the 3 month window a further 3 months (Chase and AMEX for sure have, I believe).

Try Messaging them. Chase agreed to extend in response to messages even before their official announcement.
