How many hours a week do you work?

If you have a real "full time", i'm wondering what is considered normal and what is excessive.
 I know that 40 hours is standard but do employers expect more from those who really want to succeed?

IMO, it does not matter what employers expect.  One should do what they think is best, in order to "be the best".  But to answer your question, I think it depends on the field.  For example, I would assume RE has alot of OT.  While B2B sales may only be 9-5 (or the hours of whomever you are selling to).

I know of a cpa with a large firm that works 7 days by tax season (motzei Shabbos).  I think he easily puts in 80 hours / week.

Luckily that's not me!
I am in Audit not tax and although we do have busy season I think it's less intense than tax busy season.

1)It can vary but typically yes. 2) At Big 4 they can be true. It's not everyone all the time but it definitely happens.

A 12 hour day for a couple of months I can understand, an 16 hour day is terrifying. Especially if they have to be at work the next morning!
Is accounting the profession with the longest hours, or do others also put in these type of hours?

Supposedly Wall street jobs (like Goldman Sachs etc) are 12 hour days year round.

They actually do 1-2 all nighters a week! besides for 14-16 hour days! But you won't get 250K starting anywhere else

Try investment banking. I believe normal is 16-20 hours daily, 80-100 hours a week.
