Balance Transfer Credit Card
« on: October 17, 2013, 12:20:21 PM »
I am looking for a new credit card to transfer all my balances to to consolidate my debt and pay it all off in one place. Therefore, I am looking for free transfer balances, zero percent interest for a certain amount of time, and possibly a good rewards credit cards as well. My credit is very good. If possible, I was hoping to do this to a business card to keep it off the credit bureau radar.

Any suggestions?

For balance transfers Chase Slate is the best I know of, 0% for 15 months and no balance transfer fee.

http://www.dansdeals.com/go/SlateVisa1/

Other cards like Citi Cimplicity give 0% for 18 months but charge 3% balance transfer fee. However if you have access to Vanilla Reload cards you can avoid the balance transfer fees on this card  or any other card that offers 0% on purchases.

Coherency is a helpful tool in getting people to answer your questions.
To answer what may be your question:
Open a Freedom Unlimited
Transfer over the credit from your other Chase cards to the Freedom Unlimited
Fund a bank account with the Freedom Unlimited
Use funds from newly funded bank account to pay off other credit cards.
Enjoy 17.5k UR signup bonus, 1.5 UR per dollar spent, and 15 months 0% APR (IIRC).

Im looking through the forum trying to get some info on Balance Transfers. Ive never done one before, but Im considering doing one now.

Might be me, but cant settle on any good advice I can apply to myself.

I want to do a simple Balance Transfer. Im transfering it from a Chase Freedom. I was told by a chase rep that at the moment i cant transfer to another chase card.

1) Is there a card anyone can suggest? Im debating whats more important no transfer fee or amount of time i might need.

2) Is there anything I should know about doing a transfer balance?

If I'm not being clear, i apologize I am a rookie. Thanks!

This isn't a common topic on DDF, so rather than leave you totally hanging out to dry, I'm going to guess and make some assumptions. If someone knows better they can correct (or confirm) this:

I believe Chase Slate is the only card with no BT fee. And if you convert a card to it, I don't believe you get the 0 BT option (ie I believe it's for new accounts only). So, your best bet will be to transfer it to another bank and pay the fee. Might as well go with whichever 3% bt fee card let's you hold on to it the longest. Citi simplicity is 3% bt fee then carry it at 0% for 21 months, for example - not sure if there are cards that allow longer, but GIYF and check creditcards.com. At the end of that term, try and open a slate and bring it back to chase (although, be warned that opening a slate is subject to 5/24). This is how I would approach it.

And welcome! :)

discover offers sometimes but not very common

correct

that is the longest out there though they dont give particularly large credit lines
if you have any chase card that gets a BT offer in the mail they should come with checks which you can write to yourself and use the money to pay off your other chase card. you can also transfer CL to that card to be able to do more. iinm chase slate wont give you checks

Thanks for your response. So when you say "covert a card to it" meaning from one credit card to the slate?

I want to do the transfer soon, it doesnt sound like there is much to wait for deal wise. Everyone agree to that?

Barclay Arrival card (old AA aviator) constantly sends me 1% offers for 12 months. If you need more time, you can always transfer it out to something else after that. 3% for 21 months is a decent enough deal that if you get that, just take it. Less headaches moving money and whatnot.

My very old Amazon credit card (my first CC ever- and the one that just got upgrade to 5x on amazon - and i still don't ever use it) often offers me 1% for 12 months also.

No guarantees on #1 for you if you sign up - although you will get 40,000 AA upon signup and one purchase

#2 - not worth it if you don't already have the card. The card isn't worth the plastic it's made from.

Discover card orrefors 0% APR for 14 months, what the charge of 3% for transfer balance. So I told them that I'm looking for something that doesn't have a balance transfer fee so they said let me look up if we sent you an offer without transfer fee and of course they said yep we found I'm over that we had sent you so we could do that without a transfer fee...
