Not a top ten? They equally value an application from Columbia and NYU as from FDU?
There is value placed on an Ivy League education but the trend in medicine is to value "life experience" as highly if not higher than school.
This would represent a typical list of how a school might rank an applicant:
1) MCAT
2) GPA
3a) Research
3b) Volunteer
5) Personal Statement
6) Diversity
7) Shadowing
8a) Other life experiences
8b) School
If all of the above were equivalent between 2 applicants then school may come into the picture (there are a few notable exceptions that do consider Ivy leaguers higher). Also the only time schooling
could generally be an issue is during the initial application phase. Once you've been granted an interview, it's importance drops even more.
