Letter from our Avreich:

Quote
Dearest DDF Family!

I cannot begin to express my gratitude and thanks for the outpouring of love which I see, I am humbled by my fellow DDF'ers who took it upon themselves to join the fundraising effort and help me in my time of need. It gladdens my heart to be part of such a family, who will go out of their way to help their fellows in need, whether it is financial or otherwise. I will be forever grateful to all of you, to those who donated the prizes, to those who donated money, and to those who made this a reality.

Thanks again!

What's this all about?
If you've been following this thread you may know that a longtime DDF'er who has a young family was arrested for being on the scene at the time of the sting operation.  Many of you have probably even met him in the real world. Several generous DDF'ers have donated prizes to be raffled off to bring attention to the defense fund created on his behalf.

I love how we're making it sound like everyone signed some serious contract that cannot be altered without getting lawyers involved.

From the beginning it was an ad-hock, make-it-up-as-we-go-along situation. Heck, half the rules and prizes we'rent even around yet when many of us donated.

but I'm not in charge of this raffle nor can I pick the winners as I'm quite nogeiah :)
Is there anybody involved who's not in the raffle?

Also, if there is indeed a big public push, there should probably be some clause added that it's only for new donations  -unless of course we want to open the raffle to anybody who ever donated over the course of the campaign...

Well said.

Besides, when donating to a frum campaign you almost have to get people's consent Not too extend. So widespread and international is this tradition.

Still haven't seen anyone post on the DD FB page.

Is this the reason?

 ;)

Thank you for whoever posted it to Facebook. We're starting to get a lot of clicks and page views, let's keep it up!
Airlines sending me "We're in this together" emails.

I think its not the end of the world to those people "waiting" for their prizes if we extend for a few days, if it brings in more money for the cause.

Maybe instead of 15 days that I originally suggested, we do 5 days. Every day for the next 5 days we raffle off 3 of the prizes.
The momentum of such a raffle with people winning daily will bring in more money.

You should get all the rules set before you even consider extending the deadline.
Only on DDF does 24/6 mean 24/5/half/half

That would mean less and less prizes every round, no?

As of now there are 14 prizes. So for 4 days we raffle off 3 prizes each day. For example
Nov 1 we raffle prizes 3,7, and 11
Nov 2 prizes 4,8, and12
Nov 3 Prizes 5,9, and 13
Nov 4 prizes 6,10, and 14
Nov 5  we raffle off the grand prizes. 1,2, (and hopefully if we reach 20k 15)

so yes those who only donate once the raffle starts will have a chance at less prizes, but they will still be in on the remaining prizes

What rules aren't set?

They seem pretty clear to me.

So I am "confirmed" on the google doc, but didnt get any email with push off request...
Though I don't mind!
Like others said- most Jewish raffles get pushed of at least once these days...

Your email got grouped with jj's email (you sent to both of us and he forwarded it to me), so I mistakenly only sent him. I sent an email now.

Lets hit 20K today, and no need to push off anything!!
In order for this to happen (I think), some people are going to have to donate more as there is not enough time.

I'll match you....

Do sponsors get spots in the raffle? Is there going to be a separate drawing for each prize/group?

  • Location: The value of a forum such as this one is not in that one can post a question and receive an answer, but in that the question has most likely been asked before, and the answer is available to him that will but only use the search function.
  • Programs: 1. Search on google. 2. Search in the right board of DDF with a general word or two. 3. Read the wiki. 4. Read the thread. 5. Ask away.
IMHO a person should be allowed to win one prize from each raffle category. Meaning 1 $100 prize, 1 $50 prize and 1 $20 prize.

Anyone disagree?

If 20 people double their donations today I'll double mine as well.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

It had nothing to do with signing a contract. And it has nothing to do with lawyers. It's common decency.

When one begins a raffle and sets a time,  one should keep to that time. And without the participants agreeing,  I don't see how it would be appropriate to change it.

Though not completely on topic,  I came across this article which espouses similar sentiments.
