What are the chances of a saver award seat opening up?
« on: October 24, 2013, 01:39:00 AM »
I booked flights for my whole family with United, EWR-SFO-TUS, round trip for 25K with saver award. Since I didn't have enough points in one account, I booked one person separately in a different browser from my wife's account.
My account went through, but a few seconds after that, the last person's reservation didn't go through, that flight doesn't even show up anymore when I search, not even for a standard award or business seat.

I need to fly that specific date, and there aren't any other flights as of now with saver award availability. Do I wait and hope that something will open up on that flight, or should I scratch the whole thing and book us all for Standard award? I have 24 hours to cancel, and we need to fly together to take care of the kids.

TIA, hope I was clear enough.

BTW, date in question is 12/17.

Oh, and I know that YMMV (MMMV?) but I wan't to hear peoples experience, that if I have, say a 60 percent change if it clearing up, I'll take a change, and worst comes to worst, we'll fly separate and divide up the kids.

12,500 Miles and $5.00 tax. Flights going from EWR - TUS through SFO. There are flights leaving EWR at 2:30 PM and at  1:50 PM and at 8:54 AM the first option has the shortest stop of 1:35. Could be that it's only available in my acct. because i'm a gold member, but if it's still open for gold members than I would say you have like a 85 % chance of it opening a day or two before the flight. to israel i always do it like that for 40k points the day before i want to fly.

Thanks Best Cards! You're the best.
With the knowledge that there's availability on that flight for gold members, I was able to persuade the rep to be so kind and let me on to fly together with my family. Amazing how it went from no availability, to 25K, to 12.5K, to phone charge waived, in just a few minutes, with the help of a little sweet talking. You guys rock!

Regarding united some say that the day of or day before they open up more awards seats, just checked for a flight today and there is plenty business class seats available but they are not offering any business class awards seats any ideas as to why not? makes me think that big chance with waiting for last minute that they will still not be available.

It's true that united, when it comes closer to the flight, they open saver awards. But if for some reason they think the flight is going to fill up. They don't open so if there is avail. seats in business class it doesn't  necessarily mean that It's going to open up in saver awards.

Is it still like this, that gold members have better availability? In what is about silver?

Does expert mode show you IN if you're logged in as non elite?
I remember when a coke was a nickel, and you could buy VRs in OD.

Cardholders you mean Chase Explorer/Club, correct?
Do you often see just IN open up? And how about XN, on NYC-TLV route?

My question was will the number next to IN be different depending on who is logged in.

I take it that your answer means that it will be the same.

Thanks.
