Just to name a few...
Blink-of-an-eye speed device. High speed internet (even in non-4G areas), high speed tethering. Wifi.
HD video capturing. Universal audio jack and usb port. BEAUTIFUL screen! Videocall.
1000's of free applications from Market, that actually work! Speech to text and text to speech. Visual voicemail. System uptades that actually make noticeable changes!
8 megapixel camera with flash, so besides for not having to schlep your mp3 player separate than the phone, you also don't have to schlep your camera along.
You also don't have to schlep your GPS device along, since the phone features Sprint nav. plus Google nav. (which actually work!!)
Sounds great, but does it have the jewish apps that I use every day yet?
A luach that can calculate zmanim anywhere in the world?  A Siddur? A Tehilim?

Are you saying that the luach on your Centro does not need an internet connection?

Of course not.  Have you never used Palm OS?

I have never owned palm.
I know that they are basically one of the most user friendly OS's but they have limited apps.
So how does this calendar work? It has to have access to the internet at some point to retrieve the info dont it?

There are tens of thousands of Palm apps and the OS is extremely user friendly. Plus Palm Desktop makes it easy to sync contacts, memos, calendar with your computer.  And its a breeze to use your palm as a modem with USB modem.

Luach is programmed to figure out all Zmanim, yomim tovim, etc.  for any coordinates through 2072.  No internet required.

With a simple gmail account you can sync all of that with the EVO.
There is also a luach available for Android like the one you mentioned. I just checked.
HTC sense is also extremely user friendly, wouldn't expect anything less from the evo.

LOL- I'm just watching this thread from a distance and laughing. 4 pages later and I'm not sure I want to jump in yet. Dan, I know how you feel, man. These guys don't get it, but its not always about what's "new and popular". Sometimes the old stuff does the job better for less.

I will say this, however:
Android is catching up fast- but still doesn't have all the useful apps that Palm or even WinMo does. I have to admit, my list of things it DOESN'T do is getting smaller by the day, but I still found myself rebooting my vogue (which dual boots android or WinMo, btw- and this phone IS sero friendly) back into Windows to do certain things better than Android.

BTW, Dan- I've tried the "jewish" apps for Android and found them extremely weak. There's only 2 options for siddur so far: one is just a collection of what appears to be scanned pages of a real siddur into pdf, the other has a fixed difficult to read font (I like the option to change fonts to something softer and resize text for different situations or screen sizes).
As for Luach, looks like a pretty simple app exists already- not sure if it requires data access or not. I didn't try it. For now, I enjoy playing with Android on the side, but I'm waiting for it to become more mature before I can call it my primary device.

And dude- if you're still interested in working your pre, there's that Oct 1 change to let you "buy in" for $10 a month, or we can always try that thing I mentioned...

Heh, look at that. Guess I jumped in anyway. Stupid internet, making me write things when I should be working...

Thanks for jumping in!

Unfortunately, it seems like the $10 add-on is only for SERO, not us legacy plan folks.
If I do ever activate the Pre I would definitely get the classic Palm emulator for it.

It's funny though how I've gone from being on the cutting edge of mobile phones to hanging onto an oldie but goodie that does everything I need a phone to do and does it well.
