Indeed. He does feel the need to be out of the box. His whole pitcher batting 8th shtick is a perfect example.
Out of the box is one thing but pure stupidity is another.

Out of the box is one thing but pure stupidity is another.
They are not mutually exclusive. Sometimes it's a pro, sometimes it's a con. I do believe this gore situation was a carp shoot, but I also believe it was more complicated than it seemed. Maddon definitely does need to be put in line though. Keep in mind, we played 44 games in 43 days, with one day rest, to finish the season. That's insane.

Was it 44 in 43 or did they have to be ready to play -but got rained out and didn't complete the game- in some of those days?

You are correct, I stand corrected. Twice they were rained out. Once was pre game, and once was in extra innings and was continued the following day prior to the scheduled game.
