i guess not....  but it is a milestone birthday.....
$1,750, unless it's a 175th birthday I can't even fathom...

The Qualia on HTI is much cheaper and looked incredible.

does anyone know if jetstar is allowed on a oneworld award as an affiliate of qantas?  it seems from this link that only "jetconnect" works. anyone with experience?

Yes, they are.  Just feed the agent the QF flight number.  We flew JQ for HBA-SYD-HTI-MEL. Could not interline bags JQ-QF though for HTI-MEL-HKG.

YMMV, I bet with a QF flight number it can be pulled off though.

From the AA website:
Award Redemption:
Jetstar Airways is not a participant of the AAdvantageŽ program. Passengers may not redeem mileage for travel on American Airlines codeshare flights operated by Jetstar Airways.

With Oz domestic, the QF flight number let's it go through. Otherwise, you're probably out of luck.

JQ flights with a JQ or AA flight number won't work, but like I've said, with a QF number should be OK.

This proves nothing, but somewhat backs up what I'm saying:
"oneworld Explorer: An around-the-world product that offers exceptional flexibility and value. Prices are based on class of service (Economy, Business, or First) and, uniquely, the number of continents visited - rather than mileage of the overall trip. This keeps journey planning simple and flexible. Flights can be on any of the oneworld or affiliate airlines and Qantas codeshare flights (Qantas flight number) operated by Jetstar, covering over 750 destinations"

Paid and awards in some cases can be different but from peoples experience QF codeshares will work.

Which flights?
FT'ers were shocked that I got the JQ flights I got.  All the experts there said it couldn't be done and after I booked it they said I'd get a call canceling it.  Never happened.

Anyway this proves nothing about OW awards, but worth noting,
"Members of American's AAdvantageŽ program are able to earn mileage credit on all American-marketed flights. Jetstar flights marketed under the Qantas (QF*) code are also eligible for award redemption."

Whats miles are the best to use when flying to Australia. I do not have any upgraded status with any airline but have plenty of points to be transferred wherever needed. I will be flying out of Miami. And would like to go  march (10-18). I've checked the award charts but am having a pretty difficult time figuring it all out and finding availability. Any assistance/advice would be appreciated.

Where in au are you going? Star alliance isn't worth much after Sydney cause all they partner with down under is air nz. Therefore co or united miles have only limited use unless you wish to stop in Sydney. One world partners with qantas and they fly everywhere in au and nz. I believe there is a Houston Sydney flight. Therefore you can use American airline etc miles. One option is to use star alliance to sydney and one world on from there. There are flights from Vancouver la sfo with star Alliance.

I believe there is a Houston Sydney flight.

Dallas-Sydney on QF.

Houston-Auckland on CO is starting next year.

A night in MEL is plenty.  More than that can be better utilized in Tasmania, Ayers Rock, etc.
