I'm thinking of visiting Australia in a coupla months. Being that it will be part of a longer trip around the globe, we will be shlepping a lot of extra luggage that will be unnecessary from the moment we enter Australia until we leave - and in fact will probably cause overweight issues on any domestic flights we take. Assuming we enter and exit via Sydney, is there anyplace safe and reliable (at the airport, or maybe a Chabad house or something) to store our extra bags for a week or two, preferably without having to take out a mortgage for storage fees?
Also, supposing I land in SYD, but then connect immediately to MEL (as of now, the direct flight to MEL that I want is not available)... do I have to claim my bags, go through customs, and recheck them to MEL? Or does the airline feed them straight through to MEL, and I go through customs there? And if I indeed have to claim-and-recheck, how much connection time (minimum) do I have to allow for the whole shenanigan in SYD?
