QF F has to be booked a good 9-12 months in advance.
The 330-day rule didn't pan out for me, and missed the first J seat(s), so hoping J will become available again.

Spent the day at Uluru
definitely an amazing experience but not much else around for hundreds of miles
id only suggest it if you have seen most of Australia already

Thanks
Next planning stage.
I am now tempted to spend about 2+ weeks along the coast making my way from SYD to CNS and then end the trip with about 5 days in the Darwin region.

I'm thinking of visiting Australia in a coupla months. Being that it will be part of a longer trip around the globe, we will be shlepping a lot of extra luggage that will be unnecessary from the moment we enter Australia until we leave - and in fact will probably cause overweight issues on any domestic flights we take. Assuming we enter and exit via Sydney, is there anyplace safe and reliable (at the airport, or maybe a Chabad house or something) to store our extra bags for a week or two, preferably without having to take out a mortgage for storage fees?

Also, supposing I land in SYD, but then connect immediately to MEL (as of now, the direct flight to MEL that I want is not available)... do I have to claim my bags, go through customs, and recheck them to MEL? Or does the airline feed them straight through to MEL, and I go through customs there? And if I indeed have to claim-and-recheck, how much connection time (minimum) do I have to allow for the whole shenanigan in SYD?

I don't know a out storage, but on the UA flight LAX-SYD-MEL you do not need to claim and recheck your bags. The connection is just long enough for you to go through security and not have to rush. I don't know about other airlines.

Yeah, but in my case, it's two different airlines... possibly EY connecting to QF. So may be a totally different story.

UA doesn't fly that route anymore, now they fly to SYD and new 787 service to MEL.

Thinking of arriving in MEL on a Thursday and staying for that Shabbos, then spending the following Shabbos in SYD and exiting Australia that Sunday morning via SYD, while (obviously) making the transition from MEL to SYD at some point in the week. Not sure yet where to go in between the two. We're not the type to hop another tiny flight every day or two to experience a million different places; heck, if my conscience would let me get away with just MEL and SYD, I'd consider it. :P

If you had to pick ONE place to go between those two shabbosim, where would it be - Tasmania? Cairns? Maybe hop all the way over to NZ for a few days? Something else?

Or maybe just be completely lame, and do only MEL and SYD? 🙈

With just that time:
Thu-Sun morning=MEL
Sun-Wed=GOR+Grampians
Wed-Sun=SYD

Add in a couple more days to add Cairns or Kangaroo Island.  Tasmania needs at least 4 more days.

+1. Also OOL can be done in a day or two if you want, but don't miss the GOR.

There's nothing to do in MEL for more than a day.
PH MEL is next door to a shul with meals though, so that's nice.
