Kevarim Trip - Northeastern Hungary
« on: February 14, 2024, 01:21:32 PM »
Hi everyone

Wondering if you can help or share your experiences. I put some of my questions into the itinerary in italics.

I am planning a 4-day low-cost trip for 3 in early April.

Here is my rough itinerary:

Land in Budapest
Tour Buda, Buda Castle, Pest and its synagogues
Shoes on the Danube
Kever of Maharam Mintz

Where to rent a car from?
Where to eat in Budapest?
Decent, inexpensive place to stay near Jewish Quarter?

Depart Budapest
Ehrlau (Eger)
Kever of R' Yoel Margereten and R' Avraham Shmuel Binyamin Sofer

Kazinczy Street Synagogue of Miskolc
Is this operating as an Orthodox shul? It was Neolog before the war but is listed as active now. Anybody have any info?
Jewish Cemetery
Any rabbinic kevarim here?

Kol Aryeh Shul
Kever of Kol Aryeh and Levushei Mordechai

Old Cemetery
Does anybody have any info? Apparently it's on an island?
Shul - Jewish Quarter
Apparently a lot has been preserved of this - has anyone been there?
New Cemetery
Kever of R' Dovid Shick and R' Akiva Strasser
Does anyone know how to reach the caretaker/get access to this cemetery?

Kever of Yismach Moshe and first Kamarana Rebbe

Kever of the Ach Pri Tevuah

Cheap place to stay?

What is the Yiddish name of this town? Any info?

Old cemetery - The Tzaddik of Kaliv
Is there a hachnasas orchim there?
New cemetery
Caretaker info?

Are there tzaddikim here? I'm going for a great grandmother buried here

Is there kosher food here?

Drive back to BUD airport
Does it take a long time to return rental car?

Thanks so much!
Anybody else gonna be there then? April 7-11

Budapest food and hotel, there are multiple close to the Kazinczy shul, check for hotel rates within your budget.

Nyíregyháza is pretty similar in Yiddish, Niredhaaz, very famous city.

In this thread you can find a ton of resources, better to ask your questions there as well.
