That's quite a lot... although I hear that it is worth that much more if you go for it.

How are the other cheaper hotels? Which are worth worth looking into?

There are other hotels in SYD if that's what you're asking. As I said, while I regret not staying at the PH myself, the Westin was quite ok.

Thanks!

Has anyone stayed at either Sheraton? How was it?

Why are you so curious about the Sheraton over the Westin?

I may not have enough SPG for it by the time I'm there...

I just realized that I booked my Virgin Austrailia flights two days earlier than I wanted. Would one complete day in Sydney be at all worth it? I would arrive from BKK Sunday night and depart SYD Tuesday morning. I would most likely fly Thai first to SYD. Any thoughts?

See what you can in SYD and go back another time? 3 days would barely be enough time FWIW.

I'm not even there for three days. I'm there for one day. Is it worth it? Or should I just cancel my trip for now.

It depends what you like to do. If all you want to do is climb or just see the Harbour Bridge and see the opera house it's enough time.

My question is, is it worth going to Australia for one day?

If you have nothing else to do yes. If you wont go in the future- NO.

I understand your question. In short, no. It's not worth it for most people. If the only things you wanted to see in the entire country or at least in Sydney were just the ones I mentioned above it would be worth it. I think there are less than 1% of people in that category though.

I don't know when I would go again. I was thinking that it's only a 9 hour flight from Thailand...so why not, but on the other hand it's a lot of traveling. Especially the return from SYD-LAX being in economy. If I would be able to switch it two days later I would feel better about it.

Do you fall into the 1% I detailed above? If you do, go for it. If not skip it. 9 hours may be close compared to NYC, but it's only 4 hours closer than LAX, and SYD-LAX wouldn't be a breeze in Y after an F flight to SYD.

I don't think I fall into that 1 percent you speak of. However, I don't know if/when I would go next. This way I can say I was there although for only one day. I wish I knew if I can switch the dates without risking my ticket. Also if they are upgradable.

The purpose of traveling 24+ hours is to "say you were there"? Are you related to Ben Schlappig?

Possibly. It's not 24 hours cause I have to fly from BKK back to the US. It would just mean adding a 9 hour leg. I thought I would be there for over two days and it would have been semi worthwhile.

lol! Not worth it IMO. Now to go on a 1 hour drive or ferry ride to say you were in another country is an entirely different story.

Even that is debatable.
