Breakfast Smoothies
« on: October 30, 2013, 12:08:21 PM »
I've decided to take my morning meal a little more seriously than just coffee. Can anyone recommend a blender and some smoothie recipes that they've tried and like? TIA

Vitamix is the way to go. Bit pricey, but amazing.

So not necessary though.
They have GREAT blenders for a fraction of the price.

Agreed. Just pointing out top of the line and scale down from there.

I appreciate that. Any recommendations for a starter one though? If I actually stick to this I'll consider an upgrade. Thanks

We have two blenders in my house. The ninja and a $5 black and decker. Unless I'm blending something very hard the black and decker really works just great. I'm not saying all $5 blenders will do the trick. Some don't crush ice well at all.
Meanwhile I like the Ninja series. Buy it at bed bath and beyond so if anything goes wrong with it they will take it back no problem.

That sounds really good! You make this in the black and decker or ninja?

Both. Frozen strawberries and dried dates and figs tend to do better in the ninja though.

Dr. Ush, how do smoothies affect ones teeth?  Not too acidic?
Drink with a straw?

According to Consumer Reports, the $60 Ninja is #1, beating even the Vitamix which cost about 1000% more.

I have a cheap Ninja from BBB that makes individual sizes smoothies and works great.
I use frozen fruit like strawberries, blueberries, and peaches from Costco and add a Banana and some OJ.  Great way to start the day.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

I think it's worth every penny.

Says it's even and doesn't share their testing methodology.
The Sweet Home rates it highest. http://thesweethome.com/reviews/the-best-blender/

Sounds very similar to our recipe, except we add kale and rice/oat milk.

Green smoothies are great.  Google Dr Oz's green smoothie recipe. It's very refreshing.

Try adding some kale to your next smoothie. You can barely taste it.
