« on: November 12, 2013, 08:34:30 PM »
I lost something and pledged money bzchus Rav Meir Baal Hanes. I wanted to quickly donate before I forgot and came across this site. Does anyone have any experience with it? Is it legit?

Um, here's the Wiki.

"From then on, a tradition developed that a Jew in crisis gives charity in memory of Rabbi Meir. He then says, “God of Meir - answer me!" Various charitable foundations have been named for Rabbi Meir and include the Rabbi Meir Baal HaNeis Salant charity founded in 1860 by Rabbi Shmuel Salant and the 'Colel Chabad Rabbi Meir Ba'al HaNes' charity founded by Rabbi Schneur Zalman of Liadi in 1788. Some say the above and give a small amount of charity, as a way to recover a lost item.[5]"

Another (albeit less known) segula is to search for the lost item.

  • Location: The value of a forum such as this one is not in that one can post a question and receive an answer, but in that the question has most likely been asked before, and the answer is available to him that will but only use the search function.
  • Programs: 1. Search on google. 2. Search in the right board of DDF with a general word or two. 3. Read the wiki. 4. Read the thread. 5. Ask away.

It was meant to be silly.  Do you expect coherent comments at 2 AM?

It was an expensive piece of jewelry. I searched the entire house with no luck. I said the tefilla, pledged the money, and found it five minutes later!!

It's one think poking fun of Kupat Hair and their marketing techniques, but RMBH has had many Tzaddikim over the generations bless and pray for their benfactors.

ETA: I mean this too.

My joke wasn't aimed at the segula, or Rav MBH. Nor was I implying it doesn't work (I've used it myself many times), just a little harmless humor.

No offense, but recently it seems that anything Jewish that our minds can't grasp is free speech opportunity for every Letz.
