What about the fist one? Is this too small? TIA
I would stay away from that, while it may be aesthetically pleasing, the height and small opening on top will make maintenance very, very annoying as well as limit your filter options

Wow! I didn't know you were knowledgable in areas other than camears. Now, I understand your DDF name.

The first forum I ever joined was an aquarium forum, so that's the name I kept when I discovered DDF :D.

I want it to be able to hold at least 7 fish.

First tell me where to go on vacation. I want to see at least 7 things.

My point is, the number of fish is mostly irrelevant. What matters is their size, how big they'll eventually get, how much they poop, etc. etc. You could keep 20 neon tetras in a tank, but that tank may not be able to support a single goldfish.

A 10g may be able to hold 7 very small fish (guppies, etc.), but not necessarily the fish you want.

clown fish are salt. My experience is that the brighter ones are mostly salt. Beware the engineered neon fish. They get sick more easily. For bright fresh water go for neon tetras and guppies.

Exactly, most very colorful fish are saltwater, and believe you me, you don't want to get into that at this point. The brightest/most colorful freshwater fish are African cichlids, but to keep them happy (and colorful) you'd need a larger tank, a good number of them, and very hard water (pH of at least 8.0).

Couldn't have said it better myself. They're pretty, but that's where it ends. The opening is a pain, maintenance is a pain, and there are no filter options other than default (although the built-in ones are pretty decent). Also remember that the tank won't look anything like the pictures, since the aquascaping is up to you.

So after this great shtikel Torah, what's the maskana. IOW, which tank do you have and which one do you specifically recommend. I am looking for a 20 gallon, but don't know what else to look for. Btw, where do u buy your fish from?

I left the hobby after it became too much a demand on my time. I started with a 10g and eventually ended up with a 78g custom.

I mainly bought my fish from Brooklyn Zoo and Aquarium. I had bad experience with Petsmart and Petco (low quality and weak) and worse experience with all these Chinese places (had my entire tank wiped out once due to untreatable Ich).

Why did you completely quit, and not just scale back?

why? What's pshAt? Is this all or nothing type of deal? My younger bro loves animals and will give at least two hours a week and I could so two. Realistically, is that enough time?

not necessarily specific to fish, but once you are very into something as long as it is there you can be busy with it. The only way to stop is to stop totally. With fish you can be busy with 2 fish like 10 fish.

thats what I thought. Am I underestimating the amount of time it's going to take? The upkeep?!

Gotcha, thanks. I was just confusing fresh water and salt water. So fresh water is the easier one. I got it. Pet stores sure make owning fish seem easy.

Might as well just get a dog.

Enjoy it. I am going to stick with fish. Seems like much more upkeep than initially anticipated, no?

One thing this reminded about is the option to buy bettas which have nice colors and can live in small areas. Just don't put 2 males together:D

Anyone have any experience with jelly fish? I'm thinking it would be cool to have a tank with colored led lights.
