The boat let us off at the Walter Peak High Country Farm where we took a tour of the farm, fed the sheep and deer, and watched a farm dog display as well as a sheep shearing demonstration.
Arriving back in Queenstown, they have this little place by the harbor called Underwater World which has giant windows showcasing life under the lake such as seeing eels and trout. What’s interesting to see are the diving ducks, and they have a machine which shoots food into the water for a dollar and the ducks come diving in.
I finally got the guts to bungee and then drove the 20 minutes to the Kawarau Bungy Center, the first commercial bungee operator in the world. I figured that if I finally do it, it should be at the birthplace of bungee. However, when I arrived, they were closing up for the day, so until today, I’m still a bungee virgin.
Queenstown is known as the adrenaline capital of the world. I guess that’s more accurate if you visit single or at least without kids. Many of the extreme stuff such as the crazy Shotover River boat ride are simply not doable if you have kids. As Chabad doesn’t have a presence there, babysitting wasn’t an option. With that said, we still had a great time, and you can too, as long as you adjust your expectations.
