Well, there goes that. Checked again and saw the flight was 7:15 PM, not 7:30.

As of now, I downgraded to J on a later PM flight.

The advantage to this routing is not only that it's 3 flights instead of 6 or 7, but that it gets me to SYD much earlier, as follows:

Option 1 (which includes AA F, JL F, GA F, and GA J), leaves JFK on Sunday, overnighting in LAX and then arriving in SYD at the equivalent of 6:30 PM Thursday night NYC time.

Option 2 (which includes AA J, QF F x2), leaves JFK on Saturday night, spending Sunday in LHR and arriving in SYD at the equivalent of 3:30 PM Monday afternoon NYC time.

FWIW:

Option 1 would be 62.5K AA + 90K TY + 70K DL + $223 in taxes/YQ

Option 2
would be 130K AA + $140 in taxes

Pretty ridiculous.

Costs more for 2 pax to fly AA J on JFK-LHR than it does for 2 pax to fly QF F on LHR-DXB-SYD:

Was going to ask if it was RT or OW...

It's not only AA. Most airlines when booking a one way, only the top fare classes will price even though there are lower fare classes available. To London I think all the major airlines price OWs very expensive. The same way if you check a one way economy ticket tonight with DL to TLV will be $1,700 but doing it as a RT returning in 2 weeks is just $800!

Crazy indeed.

Though here is where TAs come in handy, they have net fares with a lot of airlines so you could do OWs etc.

Anyway, Option 2 slightly modified (now to become Option 2a):



AA J + QR F + QF F. Same arrival time in SYD.

Option 2: AA J + QF F x2 for 50K + 80K = 130K AA x2 = 260K AA
Option 2a: AA J + QR F + QR F (short haul) + QF F = 50K + 40K + 60K = 150K x2 = 300K AA

Worth an additional connection +20K AA p/p to get QR F and Al Safwa?
