Usually book the longer legs farther in advance and tweak as departure closes in.

Had booked the "glitch" to SCL/Patagonia for a week, but given the amount of planning and other factors, doesn't look like we're going to be able to make that work. Additionally, neither of us are in the mood for a vacation that requires another vacation afterwards.

Took awhile, but finally refunded the entire amount of the tix through Chase trip cancellation insurance.

To close the bookends of my CX F glitch tickets, I just booked ORD-HND // NRT-JFK in NH F using 120K VS + ~$350 pp.  Can confirm that they charge YQ that matches almost exactly what is on ITA.

But even so, 19 cpp is def on the higher end of redemptions for me.

Nice. But I hate putting a CPP valuation based on the online rate, let's be real, you'd never pay those prices if you HAD to book that flight in F.

I put online, published rates because that's what my itin costs and there's not a better (or consistent) way to otherwise compare. 

A HC to who knows where else doesn't disprove that.

It's a nice fun way to compare, and it sure feels good.
But if you book OW all of a sudden you CPP increases significantly when no one in their right mind would book it like that, since a simple RT will he cheaper.
To an extent this whole thing is fake. I've gotten 15+ CPP on redemptions when you look at the OW of 6k+, when I reality a RT is closer to 4k+.

It's a long way to go for 2 days, but if this is a bucket list for you and that's all you can get, go for it.
