Returning old Brooks Brothers shirts?

I have heard that some people have mailed back many of their old/frayed/worn out brooks brothers shirts to the company in return for brand new shirts free of charge.  I was told they included a letter saying how they love the shirts and are committed customers but unfortunately these shirts have not lived up to expectations blah blah...

Has anyone had any experience with this?  What has the company sent you back?

If so please advise on where to send shirts and exactly what to say in note to the company in order to get new shirts.

I've returned similar ones I store, but they look at the date on the shirt (inside left placket?) to see how old they are. 
It's not a lifetime guarantee on the shirts.
